Optimize Patient Flow

Real-time visibility results in faster response times and quicker bed turnover

Hospitals today face a number of challenges managing the patient flow process from admission to discharge. The bed status information in the hospital information system is often not up to date as the system often relies on staff to manually update them.

Operations and the bed management unit do not have clear visibility of real-time bed statuses in the hospital, resulting in time spent making phone calls to enquire bed statuses and patients’ whereabouts.

SmartSense RTLS enables staff to have an up-to-date overview of every patient’s location, automatically updating bed status information, patients’ Admission-Discharge-Transfer statuses and sends operational triggers to various departments with minimum human intervention.

With a clear objective to optimized hospital bed management process, SmartSense RTLS Patient Tracking module has been interfaced with hospitals’ bed management systems to help manage and optimize the patient flow process from the point of admission to discharge.

With SmartSense, hospitals can effectively reduce bed turnover time, patient waiting time, improve operational efficiency and in turn increase revenue and profitability.

Integration with Bed Management System

The SmartSense system has been integrated with the Allscripts Patient Flow module (or APF), the Artificial Intelligent Bed Management Unit (AIBMU) system and the SAP bed management module. With these integrations, actualization of admissions, transfers and discharges will be done automatically in real-time, updating each of the bed management systems, as the transaction occurs.   Housekeeping will also be notified of the bed and its location, as soon as a patient is discharged, resulting in faster response times, quicker bed turnovers and shorter waiting times.

With a seamless flow of data to every part of the hospital, the gaps between departments are reduced and overall transparency is improved. Information can be recorded and updated, and notifications automatically sent, resulting in a leaner and more efficient hospital.
